Decided to shock the students by flooding their senses with visual and audio impact. Not unlike what I prepared for some lessons back in Sg.
Typical lesson here is talk and paper. I.e. the lecturer will sit at his desk, read out the important part, and the students listen. Kinda old school. The good attitude and motivation that the students have ensure that they study on their own.
Wish our Sg students are like that!
Topic is Current Affairs and I decided to use The Cranberries’ Zombie to teach about war.
Found the MTV and the lyrics and when blasted at the students (I wanted to say kids, but most of them are older than me!), they had a shock!
Haha… Not so much that the MTV was impactful, but that I think it was the first time someone used a song and MTV to teach a lesson.
More to come, I say!
Effective?
I am not sure cos phrases that the lower sec students had no problem understanding, I found myself explaining, using the simplest words I could come up with.
I guess its the same if say, we take up a foreign language. Which I am! Laos! Sabaidee!
Anyways, as in most cases, when I teach, I realise I understand the beauty and poetic undercurrent in the song even more.
The violence causes silence, We must be mistaken…
Anyways, I thought not so bad lah, the feedback. Although I will have to use something simpler next time.
Yay!
Have a good weekend!
